First Communal Government Order (Reservation)

The Launch of Suyamariyadhai Iyakkam

Periyar breaks with the Congress at the Kanchipuram session after it refuses communal representation, launching the Self-Respect Movement to eliminate caste distinctions and champion gender equality.

First Self-Respect Conference at Chengalpattu

DMK Founded by Arignar Anna

C.N. Annadurai and comrades establish the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam at Robinson Park, Royapuram, taking the ideology of self-respect into democratic parliamentary democracy.

The 1967 Watershed: Anna Takes Office

The DMK achieves a historic landslide victory, permanently unseating national party monopoly in Tamil Nadu. Anna immediately legalizes Self-Respect marriages without religious rites.

Renaming to 'Tamil Nadu' (Land of the Tamils)

Anna accomplishes his lifelong dream in the legislative assembly, officially renaming Madras State to 'Tamil Nadu' amid thunderous acclaim.

Under Kalaignar's leadership, Tamil Nadu introduces the pioneering Hindu Succession (Tamil Nadu Amendment) Act granting daughters equal coparcenary rights to ancestral property, alongside cementing 69% reservation.
